Powerwolf's newly released album - Call of the Wild - is a high energy rock opera that will take your adrenal glands on a ride to hell and back!
There's a lot of what you would call "high octane" classic Powerwolf tracks in this album, which will delight old school fans, but there are also some new Celtic supernatural folklore elements added to the mix.
The album is packed with chantable and catchy choruses that you'll be able to howl along with. Honestly, I've been singing/mumbling along to Dancing the Dead at the gym, doing my work, walking the dog and at the supermarket....
There is a strong religious element that threads its way through this album, which is reinforced with the backing vocals of what seems to be an unholy ecclesiastical choir, flowing latin lyrics and a church organ loud enough to wake the dead.
This album is Hans Zimmer circa Gladiator meets supernatural power metal during a religious apocalypse that's been organised and hosted by werewolves, who want to steal your soul.
This is just an abridged version of my review, please check out my video for my musings on this album.
