From Glitter to Guttural: BABYMETAL and Poppy’s "from me to u" is Epic

BABYMETAL have struck gold again, this time teaming up with none other than Poppy – the genre-hopping, scream-popping, alt-metal princess from the US. It’s a pairing that just makes sense: two chaotic-good forces in music, fusing sweet with savage, sparkle with scream. Released on 4 April, "from me to u" is off BABYMETAL’s upcoming album Metal Forth, their first release under Capitol Records, due to land on 13 June 2025.
The song is an absolute glitter bomb of kawaii-core metal. Expect sugary vocals, catchy hooks and classic J-pop charm, smashed together with pummelling riffs, harsh screams, and epic breakdowns. It’s a perfect hybrid, of sweetness and dark, while flipping seamlessly between English and Japanese in a way that’s signature BABYMETAL.
Lyrically, "from me to u" is a love letter to friendship and shared strength. Lines like “With this rage inside of me... Let the power go from me to you” feel like an emotional energy transfer. As if BABYMETAL are pouring their power into Poppy, who appears in the video trapped in some kind of glitchy, neon-bathed digital underworld.
The chorus hooks itself into your brain with the chant “Kimi ni Todoke” (君に届け), which translates to “reaching you” or “delivered to you,” or “from me to you” - likely the latter since it's also the title of the song. It’s catchy as hell and practically made for fans to shout in unison: just imagine a crowd of black-clad metalheads and kawaii Lolitas chanting it together.
In my rabbit-hole quest to translate Kimi ni Todoke, I stumbled across the anime "Kimi ni Todoke – From Me To You," about a misunderstood girl called Sawako Kuronuma who slowly finds acceptance and understanding through friendship – yes I watched three episodes and no I am not kidding when I say I go down rabbit holes. But, watching it made me wonder: is Poppy the metalhead version of Sawako, just with more eyeliner and dragon scales? Possibly. Am I reading too much into this? Definitely. But I digress.
The rest of the lyrics are just as strong and pure energy: “kill the enemy”, “stand up and make your move”, “let the fire carry on”. This isn’t just a song, it’s a rallying battle-cry to get you up, on your feet and moving.

The music video, directed by Takuya Oyama (VANLI), is so damn cool. Set in a futuristic Neo-Tokyo, we see BABYMETAL doing what they do best above ground: perfectly choreographed dancing, fantastic singing and flawless hair flipping.
Meanwhile, Poppy is trapped below in a Tron-like digital abyss, seemingly frozen in cyberspace until the band reach out to her, freeing her into her ultimate dragon form as the world begins to collapse around them. Honestly, the whole thing deserves its own anime. And if it happens, I’ll be first in line for the merch.
This collaboration is easily one of my favourites from BABYMETAL (sorry not sorry, but RATATATA with Electric Callboy is my number one!). BABYMETAL have yet to make a bad match. Every guest they’ve worked with has brought something fresh and unexpected, and From Me To U is no exception.
To quote the movie Scream, "But wait, there's more," that's not all folks, there are more epic collaborations on the horizon. The Metal Forth tracklist reads like a metal fan’s dream, with the likes of Slaughter to Prevail, Spiritbox, Polyphia, Bloodywood and the actual Tom Morello appearing on the album. The Fox God is truly spoiling us.

If you want to see BABYMETAL and Poppy perform this live, then you’re in luck! In celebration of 15 years of music, BABYMETAL are hitting the road for their first-ever headline arena tour in the UK and Europe starting 10 May 2025, with support from Poppy and Bambie Thug.
Once they’ve melted faces over here, they’ll head stateside for a North American tour kicking off in Houston on 13 June, with Black Veil Brides, Jinjer, and Bloodywood joining them on select dates. With that line-up? Getting tickets is a no-brainer. Go. Mosh. Ascend.
