Burton C. Bell Releases Lacklustre Cover of Rammstein's "Du Hast"

Burton C. Bell, the renowned musician and former frontman of Fear Factory, has recently resurfaced with his of Rammstein's iconic hit, "Du Hast." This release marks an exciting moment for fans eagerly awaiting Bell's next musical endeavour since his departure from Fear Factory. Bell's cover of "Du Hast" is featured on the upcoming A Tribute to Rammstein covers album, which also features covers by Front Line Assembly, Skold, the 69 Eyes and more. The album is set to be released on August 25 via Cleopatra Records.

To me Bell's rendition of Rammstein is like ear torture - it's no wonder he has turned comments off on the YouTube video for it. Given his style, you'd have thought he'd be perfect to cover this song but alas, no. Listen to it for yourself, his spin on this iconic song is disappointing to say the least.

At best, Bell just sounds like a poor imitation of Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann. It's like he's trying way too hard and falling very short of the mark. His rendition simply doesn't capture the depth and raw power that comes so easy to Lindemann. I spent the whole time listening to this song thinking "ewww no" and then "immediately no". It sounds like 'Diet Rammstein' and leaves a gross after taste. His over pronunciation of certain German words grates on the ears. This really is the cover nobody asked for and he butchered this song.

Bell enlisted the talents of Killing Joke drummer Paul Ferguson on drums and guitar on this song, while Mark Gemini Thwaite (MGT) handled the mixing and production. In theory and maybe on paper this looked like a sure win, but as I said before "ewww". If this cover serves as a glimpse into Bell's artistic vision and sets the stage for what's to come in his solo career I'm out. But, that said I will give him the benefit of the doubt and reserve final judgement until the album release.
